![]() ![]() Then later I can add a way into the cavern for civs. Since I like to have a central staircase, I also like to start out by building the staircase through the cavern, digging/building floors and walls as I go to make a sealed tunnel. They can also spook dwarves many z-levels up if the stairs are directly aligned, which leads to job cancellation spam. It's quite possible that some enemies in the cavern will be inaccessible to you because of the water often they will be content to ignore you, too.īeware that any flying creatures in the cavern may fly up your central stairwell, if you have one, and wreak havoc on your fortress. The military you describe should have no problem get them in there first. Sending civilians into the cavern is risky, but the first one you encounter shouldn't be too bad. If you have built a loom and haven't messed around with the default workshop orders, your dorfs will then automatically wander into the cavern to collect webs (left behind by cave spiders and giant cave spiders - warning: they can be dangerous) which can then be spun into thread and then woven into cloth (GCS cloth makes for quite valuable clothing).
